Distinction

It is determined by the number of display pixels. LCD monitors have a physical resolution of 1680×1050 (1280×1024), which is the standard today, which should suit you for watching all movies and DVDs in the widescreen aspect ratio of 16:10 (16:9). If you think that 1024×768 offers too little information on the screen at the same time, you will have to reach for a larger LCD (most LCDs 20″ and larger have a resolution of 1680×1050, and 24″ and larger can also have a resolution of 1920×1200 pixels – so-called Full-HD). In general, the higher the resolution, the better the monitor can display – BUT – only if you feed it a high-quality signal.
